The best visitors.
The ones you've waited months or even years to see again.
The ones you've known forever. They saw you at your worst, they forgave your stupid mistakes and still want to be friends. Or they're family and fabulous. When they visit they wait patiently while you get your children ready to go out, when you've forgotten that you need a 30 minute head start on everyone else. Their children entertain yours. They help with the cooking and the clearing up, and even fixing stuff. You catch up on life and parenting and education and politics in two different countries. They make you laugh and smile, the worry lines are smoothed away and you feel normal for a while. Outings happen and no-one has a meltdown. Okay so aspie boy is hyper, so we each take turns
Smiley was happy too, I've had a few days of sickness over the Easter break, and many of our plans to go places were cancelled. This visit helped to restore some balance to our lives.
Now my son is a sad. He wants them to come back. Right now. He says wants to go on more outings. He even said they are more fun than the X-Box.
So to our visitors this weekend all I can say is thank you so much. And please, come back and see us all soon....
I'm hoping to include this post in the Renata's #definenormal blogging challenge.
Your visitors sound lovely. It's great to feel like a 'normal' family for a while & have carefree times but, as you say, you can have a bit of a come-down afterwards. Hope you can repeat the experience soon as it sounds like it benefited everyone. x
ReplyDeleteMore fun than the x-box? That's a lot of fun :) Sounds like you've had a lovely time and your visitors sounds great. Hope they come back soon xx
ReplyDeleteIsn't it great when you have visitors like that. No stress or strain, just catching up like you've never been apart. I really idenified with the 'forgiving your stupid mistakes' bit. Thank goodness for friends like these. Sorry to hear their exit has left a bit of a hole. Great post.
ReplyDeleteI know that feeling, glad you had some fun time though and hope your health is better now.
ReplyDeleteBetter than an xbox is high praise indeed. Passed you at the zoo yesterday and almost stopped to say hello(!) (had my ASD lad with me)delighted that you had a nice visit. Beautiful writing as ever.
ReplyDelete@Jane Gregory - Yep, I may have to do a bit of begging, or advertising perhaps? x
ReplyDelete@SAHMlovingit - Me too, it's about 5 years since I've seen them last xx
@Village Mama UK - That's it, exactly - you feel like you've never been apart, even if it's been years :)
@Suburbia - Fingers crossed the health problems are sorted for now x
@Sheila - So sorry I missed you at the zoo yesterday...and thank you so much for your comment x
Thank you for continuing to share so much with us!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great post. Glad you had such a good time with your visitors, and hope you get to see them again before too long. 'Better than the x-box' is high praise!
ReplyDeleteI've never had such visitors, but I'm so glad you did!
ReplyDeleteThey obviously completely understand your family, and your son's reaction to their departure proves how important that understanding is.

Visitors like those are priceless. Lovely to hear you've had the opportunity to catch up with them.

How wonderful to have such visitors in your life.
ReplyDeleteAwwww, kno how you feel. Funnily enough your post is very timely as we have just waived off 'Gwanma' (my mum). Feel very sad now. Glad you had such a fab time though - much better to be sad when your visitors leave than be wishing them away!!! xx
ReplyDelete@Lisa S - you're welcome :)
ReplyDelete@Sally - Yes the X-Box usually beats everything!
@LUCEWOMAN - I hope you do one day x
@Crystal Jigsaw - It's great to keep in touch x
@PsychoJenic - It is, thank you.
@Beadzoid - Hope you had a lovely time with your Mum xx
OMG ...you had visitors that were better than XBOX??? OMG!!
ReplyDeleteHope you're feeling better. Easter sickness hit here too...such a PAIN when you can't go out on school holidays!
xx Jazzy
@jazzygal - who knew that ANYTHING was better than the Xbox :) xx
ReplyDeleteI felt a bit sad there when I read that bit about feeling normal for once. Great visitors and great friends can make you do that can't they? It's easier and the differences go unnoticed. But then when they leave and your own normal returns it can highlight just how different things really are. I hope they come back to see you again soon x x
ReplyDelete@LittleMamma - thank you for understanding xx
ReplyDeleteOh I hate when visitors leave-well..if they are visitors that I enjoy! I always find it easier to be the visitor...the let down upon leaving isn't as hard...and your home doesn't feel empty when you get there..I'm glad that you had such a nice time..:)
ReplyDeleteThank goodness for the kind of visitors that you feel so comfortable with. May they return to you again soon. Mich x
ReplyDelete@kathleen - I used to love being a visitor w hen I was was young. Now it is a bit more lie are work, and it can be easier and more relaxing when people come to me :)
ReplyDelete@Michelle Twin Mum - I really hope they will x
